The LSRPA awarded nine Elmeryl Davies Memorial Scholarships to students who intend to pursue careers in environmental consulting in New Jersey or whose research will benefit the practice. The students include six undergraduates and three doctoral candidates. Full-time students receive a $3,000 scholarship.
Mark Murtha is a senior Environment Science major at Stockton University. Mark is a Dean’s list student and recipient of the Stockton University Foundation Scholarship who has participated in the Stockton University Environmental Internship Program. Following graduation, Mark hopes to pursue a career in environmental consulting with the ultimate goal of becoming an LSRP.
Jessica Bonilla is a senior Environmental Science major at William Paterson University. She has been on the Dean’s list and participated as a member of the Environmental Science and Sustainability Club. Jessica has interned at TRC Companies where she contributes to Phase I ESAs and Preliminary Assessments. Jessica hopes to work in environmental consulting and pursue a master’s degree.
Bret Schuler is a senior at Drew University majoring in Environmental Science. A recipient of the Drew University Dean’s Scholarship for four straight years, Bret has also been a Landmark Conference All-Academic in the university’s tennis program. In the summer of 2022, Bret interned with the NJDEP as a geologist and plans to join the site remediation industry.
Pasqualina Rivetti, a junior at NJIT majoring in Environmental Science, has been on the 2022 Dean’s list and received multiple scholarship awards. Pasqualina’s undergraduate research focuses on land use practices in northern and central New Jersey. Pasqualina currently interns in the NJDEP’s Office of Natural Lands Management and aspires to work in the environmental science field.
Stella Campbell is a senior at Rutgers University in New Brunswick majoring in Environmental Policy, Institutions, and Behavior and minoring in Communications. Stella has experience with the Raritan Headwaters Association and the Rutgers Office of Climate Action. Following graduation, Stella hopes to enter the workforce before pursuing an environmental law degree.
Jitendra Kewalramani is pursuing a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering at NJIT following the completion of a master’s degree in civil engineering from NJIT and a bachelor’s degree from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. Jitendra’s research falls into the geo-environmental subset with a focus on the commercial potential of ultrasound technology for in-situ remediation.
Nicolette Filippone is pursuing her doctorate at Rutgers University – Newark in Environmental Science. Her research focuses on the utilization of preliminary geophysical data in order to understand the potential for natural attenuation of hydrocarbon contamination at sites. This research may provide environmental professionals with more effective site remediation processes.
Chris Terra, a doctoral candidate in Environmental Science at Rutgers University – Newark, is researching the utilization of geophysical methods to investigate transport and infiltration in aquifers. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, he spent more than six years in environmental consulting, where he monitored remediation at redevelopment sites.
Aaron Gover is a junior at Stockton University majoring in Environmental Science. A member of the Dean’s list and the National Society of Leadership and Success, Aaron plans to pursue a career in remediation, sustainability, and pollution prevention after graduation.
