Quarterly rent growth among the major apartment-owning REITs – 12 companies with 549,956 units – slowed in the first quarter of the year, growing by an average of just less than 1 percent from the fourth quarter. That’s a slowdown from last year’s fourth quarter, when rents had increased an average of 1.5 percent from the previous quarter.
