The Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey recently recognized Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg for its commitment to sustainability and development, highlighted by its standing as the largest solar powered resort on the Eastern Seaboard. The on-site field is comprised of 19,000 solar panels across 25 acres, generating 3.5 megawatts annually. This output is greater than the combined power consumption of the Resort’s two hotels.
Representatives Senator Steve Oroho along with Assemblymen Hal Wirths and Kevin Rooney presented the resolution that recognized the New York Metro area’s choice for sustainable group gatherings and leisure stays.
According to Chris Mulvihill, chief marketing officer of Crystal Springs, “Offsite meetings and company retreats are a big part of our business, and it’s important to understand that required air travel to meet in a remote location not only costs money and time, it also has a major environmental cost. By contrast, we can have a company’s team at our Resort in less time than it takes to get through airport security. And, our guests wake up in the morning knowing they slept in a solar powered hotel.”
In addition, the Resort has also developed a number of offerings with themes of sustainability including its Inspiration Series featuring local farm tours, guided nature hikes, foraging classes and the construction of beehives to support the rebuilding of the local bee population’s fragile habitat. “While we recognize the primary purpose of a company’s offsite meeting, it never hurts to enhance an event with additional experiences that can give attendees a connection with nature and inspire them to be better stewards of the environment,” said Mulvihill.
Further sustainable initiatives undertaken by the Resort include partnerships with the Division of Fish & Wildlife to support the habitat of bog turtles, and the New Jersey Audubon Society & JCPL to enhance bird, bee and butterfly environments.
