Larken Associates is mourning the loss of Babette Rutman, its former chief financial officer and a key member of its Branchburg-based team over more than 25 years.
Rutman, who was 72, joined the real estate firm in 1996 and quickly rose to prominence within its executive team. The company said she worked closely with Chairman Larry Gardner and CEO and President David Gardner, citing her “leadership and tireless hard work” in helping transform it into one of New Jersey’s most-respected and fastest-growing real estate builders, developers and managers.
She retired from her role as CFO earlier this year but continued to be a trusted resource for the Gardners and the entire Larken Associates team, according to a news release. In addition, Rutman was the broker of record for Raider Realty, the firm’s in-house brokerage division.
“For almost three decades, I have been honored to call Babette a friend and colleague,” David Gardner said. “She will be deeply missed by her Larken family as we reflect on her friendship and the many accomplishments and wonderful times we shared together. Our sincere condolences go out to her family during this difficult time.”
Prior to joining Larken Associates, Rutman owned and operated two Century 21 offices in New Jersey, having also worked for Kaplan Cos. She received her bachelor’s in accounting from Rutgers University School of Business.
Rutman is survived by her three children, Jason Boig, Sarah Rutman and Steven Rutman, and grandchildren.
