A brand-new affordable housing building will be officially welcoming residents soon as a partnership between North Bergen and a developer has opened after over two years of construction.
Political dignitaries and representatives from The Alpert Group held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Meadow Hill Apartments, a new affordable apartment building for residents who are 55 and older. The complex, located at 6725 Columbia Avenue, includes a total of 61-units, with 16 of those set aside for physically disabled residents.
“This new building is a testament to our commitment to providing quality housing for our senior residents and is a reflection of our dedication to creating a vibrant and inclusive community for all,” Mayor Nick Sacco said in a statement.
Per the Hudson Reporter, the project broke ground in September 2021. The completed vision is four stories over parking and features modern apartments with energy efficient systems and appliances.
Designed by Lothrop Associates Architects, amenities at the complex include a clubroom, laundry facilities, and on-site management office. The property was developed by The Alpert Group in partnership with the North Bergen Renaissance Corporation, a 501c(3) non-profit affiliate of the Housing Authority of the Township of North Bergen.
Meadow Hill Apartments is already leased at full capacity and will eventually house to a doctor’s office that is still under construction.
The project was made possible through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, which lets investors contribute to affordable housing in exchange for federal and state tax credits, and a $2 million contribution from Hudson County in HOME funds.
